Default 2 Sticks VS. 1 Stick?

Is their an advantage of getting 1 GB of ram in one stick or two sticks?

Is it the same performance, I heard that it is better to get two sticks.

I don't know which to get of the following, they are the same RAM but one is a single stick and one is 2 sticks.

http://www.memoryexpress.com/index.p...741&SID=139527

Or if someone could reccomend a better one using that site (www.memoryexpress.com)
Thanks

why would you get DDR2?

also: two sticks equals dual channel... but only for motherboards and processors that support it

A larger dimm generally increases the amount of ram available on one dimm to prevent what is called "memory holes" when one gets filled and data then has to jump over to the next dimm. The system board will automatically use up so much of the initial memory. On older systems memory gaps or holes would sometimes see problems when going to run certain apps or games.

On a newer board the DDR2 is the faster memory then DDR if the board supports the use of both types. Increasing to two 1gb dimms will increase performance when running games and large apps that are memory hungry. That also increases available ram for background services that then use the secondary channel while running a large app on the primary.

Did you ask if martyvice was planning on a new build or just going by the sig alone? Generally when someone is inquiring about a newer hardware unsuitable for the present build they are looking to upgrade.

Well if you plan to upgrade later, then get the single 1gig stick, therefore you can put more in if you want more ram.

OK thanks guys, I will go for the 1 stick of Ram, so it will be easier to upgrade in the future... And I probably will need to get another stick once Vista comes out.
