Exclamation Using IDE drive on Sata Mobo W/ converter?

The mobo i purchased (Asus M2N-sli Deluxe) only has one ide slot, for the two cd drives id like to connect up.......SOOO, instead of wasting the money on a sata hard drive because i cannot return my IDE hd, can i use a converter, such as a IDE/SATA to usb converter for my hd and run it off of the usb? if so, any plus/minuses with this setup?......Thanks
Sean

You could, but i reccomend just getting a SATAII drive. Much easier, faster, etc.

well the problem is i lost the case to return it to tiger direct, and im a cheap sob, so now granted it wont be as fast as a Sata drive, but would the ide drive connected thru a usb comparable to an ide drive hooked up in a pri ide drive?

You lose a lot of performance going to USB. You could get an IDE/SATA converter (not to USB).

can't you just get an ide splitter that splits 1 ide into 2? they come standard with most motherboards...

That converter will probably work, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822998001 this one is smaller though.
