I was playing GTR2 last night (a racing simulation game).
Was doing a 100 lap race, each lap taking about 1min 45secs. Card was on stock clocks (600MHz core, 660MHz mem, I think). RAM is clocked at about 180MHz. CPU is at 2.56GHz (BOTH cores are OCCT stable). Temp of card, with all graphical settings on max, was 43C (all other system temps were absolutely fine). I have done no volt mods to the card. - - - Well, I was doing this 100 lap race, and I'd occasionally get the odd, little white dot artifact here and there. Nothing to really worry about, as I was playing the game on max settings anyway. As I got to about the 30th lap, I would start having the occasional, short period, where the game basically dropped to 5/10fps, from running at a smooth 55/60fps. Now, that worried me a bit. This seemed to happen when more than 1 car was visible in front of me. (Strange how this didnt happen when the race first started, with 40 cars visible.) These occasional periods started to become more frequent. So, I opened ATI Tool and the nVidia driver to monitor temps on my 2nd monitor. As I play, the temp never rose above 43C. So, it wasn't overheating. The exhaust air was warm, but not hot, so I doubt the temperature diode is screwing up. So, I minimised, and disabled my second monitor to see if that helped. Turned it off, and continued to play. Still got the occasional period of fps drop, and they began lasting a bit longer (5/10 seconds-ish). Then, around about the 50th lap (roughly 88minutes of racing), I had another period of fps drop. However, this period didn't stop. It continued. The start menu took about 20 seconds to open (quite an increase from 'instantly' opening up). Waited for the menu to close, period of 5/10 fps continued. Opened the menu again, but it wouldnt close. I guess the game crashed. Quite annoying, considering I had been racing for an hour and a half, and have nothing to show for it. Anyone have any ideas as to the cause of the problem? I will try 3DMark06 tonight, see if that brings anything up. I guess it's possible GTR2 didn't quite install right. EDIT 3DMark06 ran without a hitch. (4492, if you must know). Am wondering why the problems gradually become worse and worse, rather than stay constant throughout, as would normally happen.
