Default flat hard drive??

my neibhors threw a computer away today so i decided to pick it up and mess around with the insides. i opened it up and the first thing i noticed was that the hdd was really flat. i said to myself it must be really old but then i noticed that the motherboard had an agp slot and the ps has 500w, and it had a dvd reader with it too. can anyone shed some light on what is that really flat hard drive?

seems its just a hard drive the size of a cd drive... 5.25" form factor rather than 3.5" form factor.
HA they want $230 for it used.
