Default HELP with blue screen

I really need help. 3 weeks ago I bought a new pc. Last night I was playing a game and the screen froze. I restarted my pc and all I see is a blue screen. It says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and restart your computer.
Technical information:
STOP : 0x00000024 (ox00190203, ox8634eod8, 0xc0000102, 0x00000000)
i'm not sure if it's 0 or o ???
I didn’t install anything on that day. The day before I installed Internet Explorer 7. I have windows XP. I don’t have a recovery cd or XP cd. I tried using safe mode and it doesn’t work. I can’t check for “Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and restart your computer” because i can’t get to my desktop. I did check F8 and ran a test (I don’t remember what it’s called) and it said I had failed when I tested the memory in my pc. Can anyone help?

do you know if your computer has 1 or 2 sticks of memory? if you have 2, try one at a time and see if it will boot from 1 stick.

0x24 is a file system error. If you can't boot to windows to run chkdsk you can use the recovery console and run it from there.

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 was pre installed. I don't have a cd. Can I use my old XP home edition cd? Thanks everyone for the suggestions. How do I boot from 1 stick of memory? Do I have to remove the other?
