Default New Win. XP Acting Disfunctional

I just bought a fresh copy of Win. XP and when I install it, the resolution is all messed up, when i drag windows it makes blocky trails and when I scroll in the browser it lags. My laptop more than meets the system req.., and my previous version was not like this.

Yes, I have tried adjusting the resolutions but it doesn't fix the problem. In fact it acts very weird. There are all the 8 res. (800x600 - 1920x1440) options but anything above 1552x864 ironically makes is so large it windows barely fit the screen.

Please tell me what you know. Thank you.

A higher screen resolution shrinks icons seen on the desktop as well as reducing the size of text in documents and things seen in IE or explorer windows Have you installed the video drivers or just running on the default vga drivers included in Windows?

Are you using the onboard display or an optional card? The original cd that came with the laptop will have the drivers there in a folder. If not you would go to the support site to see if you can download an updated set. By right clicking on the MyComputer icon you can enter the device manager by then clicking on the "hardware" button and scrolling down to the display item.

Once you have the disk or a download opened up in a temp folder you would right click on the display and choose the update driver option. You then simply browse the disk or the temp folder for Windows to install them. The default vga drivers won't support a screen res over 1280x1024.
