I guess you mean as opposed to using an online service.

I like to have all my email available locally so if there is ever a problem with my connection but I need to access the contents of an email then I can just open Thunderbird and locate my email.

It also makes searching through emails quicker and easier.

You can locate your e-mails on your machine (locally) instead of having to be connected or if HotMail has problems with server etc... Also, in Outlook and Thunderbird there are search functions that you can search through every folder or just one.... Also with Outlook and Thunderbird you can have multiple acounts being checked and recieved.

What I have found with using Yahoo with Outlook you can compose messages but the do not send properly.... So I just use GMail...

Gmail primarily (ahh, I love it) and Hotmail for my junk email. A few days ago I deleted 2000 messages from my hotmail account .
