Default Apple Q!!

I was thinking of getting an apple Ibook for school. I know there are two models that im interested in called the G3, and the G4. Obviously, the G4 is newer and better than the G3.

Now, my question is, is 500MHZ too low for a CPU? How does Apples CPU's work? What if I can get a 500 MHZ, 256MB G3 for $350 shipped. Is that a good deal?

What if I could get a G4 (1.33 GHZ, 512 MB RAM) for $550 shipped. Is that a good deal as well? What should i be looking out for?

The main purpose of this laptop is to watch movies, listen to music, and browse the internet. I will probably also use Dreamweaver 8 and Photoshop CS2 as well. Would any problems arise? THANK YOU!! Sorry if my question is too confusing. Thanks!

If you going to use Dreamweaver 8 and Photoshop CS2 I would go for the G4.

I would probably go for the G4 as well. I have a G4, which is on 700Mhz & 768 mb or ram and it runs Photoshop CS and Illustrator perfectly fine. It might not be the fastest, but it works fine.

Trust me dude, if you want to run anything like that, get a PC. Unless you're getting a brand new mac, they really aren't worth it. My Mac Mini runs Photoshop CS much slower than my laptop. And, I'm sure you could find a used Averatec 3270 for less than a used 1.33GHz G4 Mac...

Well, for one there is a plethora of problems right now with the CS suite and intel based macs. Rosetta is a huge memory hog, and adobe probably will fix most of these issues in CS3. I have a designer with a Mac Pro right now and it is blazing fast, except the Adobe apps suck, and they suck big time. We have an older G4 iMac sitting right next to it, that runs CS better because it is optimized for PPC hardware and there is no universal binary version

Wow, it must run pretty bad on those intel based ones because it's very slow on my G4 mac...

Mine runs pretty darn fast for a 700 Mhz , the only problem with I run into is sometimes it runs a little slow when I'm dealing with a larger file or if I have some other apps running. I'm planning on upgrading to a mac pro and getting rid of all my comps. Cant beat running windows and OS X on one comp.

Yeah, it sucks. It is a rosetta problem, and like each adobe app takes up over 2gigs of virtual memory by itself. So, if you have like 3 apps open from CS2, that is 6gigs of VM being used right there.

It should all be fixed soon with Leopard and CS 3.

What about Dreamweaver 8? Will it run fine on both the G3 and the G4? I probably won't install CS2 on the laptop then because I have it on my PC and if I ever need to use it, I can use it on my desktop.
