Default Newb ques

Hey everyone i have an Ibm M Pro found it outside kinda lucky there was no hard drive, cd, floppy, mem, agp card it only had the power supply and mobo and 1 processor. I added 40gb hd, cd drive for now, 512 mb of ram, another p2 processor, built the cd case and side panel out of plexi <a href="http://www.computerforum.com/?=glass">glass</a>, and a ati mach 64 agp card this is my second build actually but there are some switches 1 to 8 what is this for my first build didnt have these switches on them could someone tell me what they are for

I can't tell you for sure what they are for, but many times they have a lot of functions. For example, the first 3 might be for the multiplier, bus speed, and other features like that. I know my newer IBM has a few dip switches on it. If you look around the case or on the motherboard, it's usally printed somewhere.

my father had an old computer like that. there are different combinations of on and off (or 1 and 2) you set depending on what cpu(s) you are using.
