dvd burner will read CD but no DVD's

I have an HP Burner for about a year now and it went out the other night it will read all of my cd's no problem but it will try to read a dvd disc (blank or not) Ive only ever used memorex dvd+r when burning it just will not read the dvd's tried a different brand of dvd and that did not work. What could be the cause or do i need to pony up and get another.

No dvd drive will read anything on a blank dvd. After you burn video or create a data disk the disk has then been formatted by the burning software. I see that all the time here with a good drive and good media being used.
