Default New XP install (cant change Home Page)

I have just installed a fresh install of XP on a Laptop. When I go into Internet Explorer 6, it wont allow me to change the homepage. I have another PC that does the same and that was one I bought with a new install of XP on it. That PC uses Internet Explorer 7. This must be a common problem but cant seem to change it. There are no viruses etc on either computer.

These are completely fresh installs of XP so registry cannot be changed. Internet Explorer is being used for first time too so there cant be anything wrong with that. It does it on IE6 and IE7 on two different computers.

what do you mean the registry can't be changed? just go to start>run>cmd>regedit

No. What I meant was that the registry had not been tampered with etc because XP had just been installed and nothing had been used. I just loaded IE6 up and it came up with msn as the home page which I know it does anyway but when I go into tools and change the homepage, it always reverts back to msn. Its the same with my other PC which was installed by someone else but I cant change that home page either.

Somebody mentioned that maybe Windows Defender may be on them and is stopping the home page from being changed. What do you think?

If this is IE7 go to the very top right drop down arrow and make sure google is checked as your default, then make sure you dont have 2 home pages listed in your internet options
