doesnt matter what kind of cd, nothing works. now it doesnt read anything. wont read, wont write. i have an emachines laptop, with a combo dvd/cdrw drive. this sh!t is driving me nuts, i have powerpoints i need to open for this test and installing office is hard without my cd rom working. now that i think about it. i downloaded quake 3 awhile ago but when i installed it for some reason, i opened my comp. and saw another cd rom drive recognized with the quake symbol over it, as if it contained quake 3 in this imaginary drive. ive scince mananged to get rid of that extra drive but my cdrom hasnt worked right scince. any ideas??

Well when you said CDR's minus the "R", it made it seem like your trying to burn data on just regular CD's, which aren't CD-R's.
