Default Lest we forget. Remembrance/Veteran's Day.

Lest we forget the sacrifices they have given to our freedom.
Lest we forget the ongoing battles.
Lest we forget the brave souls that gave themselves for us.
Lest we forget this day.

Pay your respects this Remembrance/Veteran's Day, to those that fought long and hard for us.

May the ones that did leave, continue to R.I.P, and may we continue to remember.
May the mother of Shane be soothed knowing he died for the cause of good. May my mother and Shannon help her through - he was a close family friend.
R.I.P Corporal Shane Keatly...

"What would compel a person to thrusts themselves in harms way, knowing the devestation that it will cause to their family if they were to be killed? Why would someone like... Shane Keatly, who was from the same size of school as our, same area, same background, infact some of our own teacher taught Corporal Keatly, why would he choose to stand up to that commitment?" - Mr. Crowell... DCS Principal on November 9th.

Don't forget to pay your respects.. without them, who lnows where we'd be now.

Thanks Kagome. It is good to remember our veterans from time to time. I'll never forget the first time I saw the WWII memorial in Washington DC this summer. Spectacular at night, and also a very powerful place if you just take a minute to stop and think about what it is there to commemorate... Anyway, Happy Veteran's Day everybody!

I think this poem sums it up.

I do not know your name, but I know you died
I do not know from where you came, but I know you died

Your uniform, branch of service, it matters not to me
Whether Volunteer or Conscript, or how it came to be
That politicians failures, or some power-mad ambition
Brought you too soon to your death, in the name of any nation

You saw, you felt, you knew full well, as friend and foe were taken
By bloody death, that your life too, was forfeit and forsaken
Yet on you went and fought and died, in your close and private hell
For Mate or Pal or Regiment and memories never to tell

It was for each other, through shot and shell, the madness you endured
Side by side, through wound and pain, and comradeship assured
No family ties, or bloodline link, could match that bond of friend
Who shared the horror and kept on going, at last until the end

We cannot know, we were not there, it's beyond our comprehension
To know the toll that battle brings, of resolute intention
To carry on, day by day, for all you loved and hoped for
To live in peace a happy life, away from bloody war

For far too many, no long life ahead, free of struggle and pain and the gun
And we must remember the price that was paid, by each and every one
Regardless of views, opinions aside, no matter how each of us sees it
They were there and I cannot forget, even though I did not live it
I do not know your name, but I know you died
I do not know from where you came, but I know you died.

I have great respect for veterans and in fact anyone who faught to change the world we live in for a better place. The only one I knew that faught in wars was my greatgrandfather, who fought on the side of Austria-Hungarian Empire in WWI. He was severely injured by shrapnel, but survived and died as a resilt of one of the pieces travelling through his blood stream many decades later. Yes, he was on the side that lost, but I honour the dedication and the love for one's country that all veterans display. All the best to Grey410 and others who are actively helping to improve this world that we live in. Much appreciated.

Let they all rest in peace and never be forgotten.

JAN

The only one i know who fought in the war was my grandfather, a German Major in WW2 (No, he wasnt that stereotype evil german etc.. :| )
I do have respect for those who endured the terror of war, to give other people a better world to live in. and i think this post is a very good thing.. People see their freedom as a natural thing mainly,.. but they forget its earned in blood,.. and thats something that really shouldnt be forgotten.

May they rest in peace, and never be forgotten.

My grandfather was drafted into the Navy in WWII and was a submarine commander. He was also drafted again for Korea. He died one year before I was born.

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag,
who serves under the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.

For my cousin who will soon be going to Iraq and my sister's boyfriend who will be finishing officer training soon
