Default games freezing for no apparent reason take 2

hi again, sorry but my last thread seems to have crapped its pants after I tried to post in it last and now when I try and open it it says database error, my lucky day huh.

anyway my problem was that games are freezing after a couple of minutes of gameplay for what seems like no reason? all my temps are stable, all my drivers are up to date, lastest version of directx etc... when its freezing, only the game freezes, not the operating system... so it seems graphics related... no idea what the go is here.

system specs are;
AMD AM2 3800+ dual core
Asus M2v
Samsung 1gb DDR2
Asus 512mb 7600gs
Western Digital 320gb sata hdd

this is driving me up the wall, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! I've checked my direct 3d, direct sound and directx using the directx diagnostic tool and it checks out all good.. I really have no idea whats causing this!

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1485
im running these atm, and have no problems ( except in FO2 with SLI enabled, then the game freezes)

edit: that link is for windows xp 32 bit, i assumed you're not running x64

I know this seems drastic, but have you considered reformatting?

I have, but what I didnt actually mention is that this is a brand new system so it has just been formatted and whatnot, so its all fresh...

another thing which slipped my mind was that I'm using a 20 pin power supply on a 24 pin motherboard... is this a bad thing? theres 4 spare pins on the motherboard... maybe theres not enough power making its way to something which is causing graphical applications to fail? any ideas..

would it be wise to invest in one of these?
http://www.xoxide.com/20-to-24-pin-adapter.html

my power supply is a JSP bluefire 500w, I actually have a spare power supply which is a 24 pin but its only 300w and its just a standard power supply... I'd rather get an adaptor if that is going to work over the other power supply...

thoughts?

Wow, yes! That is a huge deal! I would definitly buy the adapter! And don't use your computer until you apply the adapter, your computer is not getting the appropriate power. Im surprised it booted!

You really should be using a proper PSU. I would imaging there is a high possibility that your troubles would go away.
