best free antivirus / firewall?

due the my outdated norton and my sucky mcafee that i got free from dell, i want some other free antivrius/firewall

any suggestions?

maby ones u use and etc?

This is what I use and it is fantastic.

Along with Ad-Aware and Windows Defender, I've been able to detect, stop, and remove everything that doesn't belong!

AVG has been used here for some time and is free to download along with the latest version on Ewido renamed to the AVG Anti-Spyware Free. you can download both at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng...i-spyware-free

AdAware SE Personal which compliments Grisoft's new version of Ewido is readily available at http://www.lavasoft.com. You can also get Spybot S&D at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

For a free firewall Comodo is one currently pending a tryout here. You can get that at http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ Another free personal firewall is called Jetico found at http://www.jetico.com/index.htm#/jpfirewall.htm Some have had problems with this one however.

RIght now I have been running the trial version of PC-cillin to see how that will work out with the builtin firewall and antispyware utility. But that's only good for so many days to compare it others. When I get AVG back on more then likely I will be trying out Jetico and Comodo to see how those will work.

When I used to use a firewall on Windows before having a router I found that Sygate's free firewall was extremely efficient, so give that a look into.

Well my assessment is finished on the Trend Micro PC-cillin. The firewall included even in the trial version prompts you on everything. The email scanner will not flag spam by you choose the report it option(nice!). The spyware remover took care of a few hidden items with the antivirus part of sitting inactive due to the lack of anything to go after.

But the one drawback was how it was hampering IE. It was also causing Windows to hang when going to shutdown or simply restart the system. Once it was removed normal internet functions cam back. Besides that the program was about as demanding as Norton on resources. Antivirus programs can intefere with your IE connection at times as well as other programs. The one thing that sees favor is how fast it spots things. It will quickly block access to cetain sites depending on the settings you choose. 50/50 rating here.
