Default DVD Drive

Hi everyone, I have a sony desktop computer which came with windows XP home edition, after some time I installed windows XP professional instead, and what I expected did happen, the DVD's do not play. It says that no DVD decoder was found and plays no further or at all. Is there anything I can do to make it work besides downloading win DVD for 50 dollars????
Thanks everyone!

You can try googling up "MPEG2 codec" which is actually what the system needs
