I have not listed some materials, because I already own them: Screen, Storage HD's DVD-R and some other misc stuff, which will be used to complete the build.
Case - Antec 900 Power Supply - Antec NeoHE 500 Watt Processor - 2.13 Core 2 Duo Motherboard - Asus ATX Socket LGA775 RAM - PNY 2 GB PC2-5300 667Mhz DDR2 Mem Kit HD OS - Western Digital 250 GB 7200 SATA Graphics Card - Norwood Micro GeForce 6600 PCI Express 256 DDR Audio - Still Deciding - Probably a cheap creative card. This is my build and I was just wondering how it will rank. I'm going to be using it for some gaming and graphic design work. I'm pretty much set on what I have listed, because I can get the materials locally and with good rebates. It will be a little over a grand for all of it. Any suggestions would be great and do you think I should wait till after Thanksgiving? Most of the parts will be bought locally, so I'm not sure if they will be featured in Thanksgiving sales or not? Thanks for looking,

PNY memory on an Asus board?
You should have gone with Kingston, Corsair, or Mushkin value ram at least. The Antec case was seen here after having boght another. The rest looks good for all general purposes.

My PNY value ram worked just fine in the M2N-E.

When I ran it several years ago on the older systems like a 486 upto a AMD 500mhz K5 Soyo board followed by a Shuttle board with 768mb of PC133 at about 800mhz I wasn't noticing any problems. The older dos and 95-98 games saw memory errors come up alot however. PNY will never be a good performance brand. If you are not planning to oc then you should be able to get by for the basics.
To no surprise the 2gb of Kingston Value Ram perform just as well as the matched pair of 512mb Corsair xms series memory but with the increase smoothing things out even further. But when you are on a budget you have to go with the optrions you have there. I had to build this on a moments notice without seeing a dual cored cpu or better video card. But the card still performs well for what is needed here. |
