Default How good of a laptop would you reccomend for Music/Videos/Internet/School Work?

I was wondering what specs you would reccomend on a Laptop for Music, Videos, Internet, and School Work? I'm not really looking for that much of a gaming laptop, I just need it for the things listed above. I was thinking something along these lines:

1-1.5 GHz
256 MB RAM
50-80 GB HDD
Either an EV-DO or really good wireless card
12-16 inch screen

Any suggestions?

My mom's getting a laptop for us, for $200, so it's probobly not going to be that great at first, but I could upgrade it, I'm expecting probobly about a 20 GB HDD, and no internet, than everything else in the list above, since it's from a good friend of my step-dad's, it's probobly going to be about that, I'm not really sure on any of the specs though.

Try to get a laptop with at least 512mb or RAM,or if you get less than 512,try to upgrade it soon.A 50-80GB hard disk is enough for your needs. Also it's always good to have a good quality and bright monitor.

Well, I might get to get on the lappy tonight, so I'll tell you what it is. The lady we're getting it from said something about Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Microsoft Office to my mom, so it might be a few days, I could do it, but when my mom calls the person, she never tells her I can do it, so she's expecting to do it herself, I really have no idea what's going on, my mom's just giving me the facts, but she has no idea what she's talking about when she's talking, lol.

Okay, this thing sucks royal a**...

1 GB HDD
96MB of Ram
233MHz
Windows 98, the installation went bad so a few crucial system files are missing and I can't do anything pretty much...

I hope she can take this back, because she got ripped off hard... Oh, and I can't upgrade it either, because all the parts are made by Micron, and are Micron specific. And I googled and can't find any parts to upgrade it... Wow, this thing sucks, it's amazing that technology has gotten so advanced that my PSP is almost as good as this 15 or 20 pound lappy...

Yes, she did get ripped off if she bought that for 200$. For 200$ you should have at least gotten a PIII 1Ghz or even a slow/old P4m/P4. For schoolwork/internet/videos though even a 700-833Mhz laptop will work fine for you, even with only 256Mb/384Mb of ram. As for not being able to upgrade, you still could, but it wouldn't be worth it at all.

Yeah, we're going back over in a few hours, this time I'm coming with so she doesn't buy a shi**y one, if we can't find a good one from this person, I think we're going to Wal-Mart, Sams Club, Best Buy, or Circuit City, the laptops I'm looking at are in the links, if you weren't rich, or if you not, than simply which one would you get? I'm thinking about the Wal-Mart one, because it's the cheapest, good enough for now, and upgradeable. Or maybe the Circuit City one, only $500, great specs for me, and wouldn't need to upgrade it.

These are my order of which one I thinkm I should get the most to the least:
1.Circuit City
2.Wal-Mart
3.Best Buy
4.Sam's Club

For your uses basically the cheapest one is the best one. You won't be playing any games on it so you don't need any hardcore gfx cards, an onboard one will work fine. In all likelyhood though I'd go with the Circuit City one, seems to be the best bang for the buck.

Okay, I got the laptop from the person I got the crappy laptop from, it's GREAT IMO, 1.52GHz, 196 MB of Ram, Window XP Home runs well on it, I'm on it ATM. My one complain about it so far is that it's graphics driver is old, so I was wondering how I can upgrade them, the laptop is a Compaq Presario 2100, so if you can give me a link to a website with the drivers, that'd be great, I'm leaving tomorrow after school, so if you could hook me up with that quickly, that'd be excellent, if not, than I can probably get on sometime.

EDIT: I stuck Windows XP Pro on here and now the screen doesn't jump anymore, I wonder why? Oh well, doesn't really matter, at least it works. Is there any way I can connect my laptop to my computer without any cables, because I want to put some music on here without having to recopy all my CDs, I've got a wireless router and some extra Ethernet cables if that matters if that matters. Also, is there any way I can change the owners name and Computer Name without reformatting? The lat guy who owned it chose the stupidest names for everything, ACID-computer's name, ACME- Company Name, and Stoner or something like that for his name.
