Ok I noticed that i have been having trouble with my cd and dvd drives. It first started when the Dvd writer was reading all cds as read-only so i can do ne thing with teh files ont the cd,But when i put them uinto to the cd drive they worked fine. Then several days later they stopped worknig completely.I've tryed reintalling the drivers, the ide driver and i tried bout half a dozen new cables. The computer reconizes them snd installs them but then they wont read any discs at all, burned cd ,dvds ,nothing. When u open it form "my computer" , it ethier says "please insert disc" or it show s 0 folders on cd.They got power, in fact the computer has a brand new psu. Then later while testing the cables the computer just stopped reading one drive completely.I have looked for the solution for hours only to find people with my exact problem but no one to solve them. Im pretty sure the cd drives are good cause its does this to ne cd drive i put in. please ne suggestions? sorry for the long description

are the drives beeing recognized in the bios or during the POST screen?
I had a problem with my old Lite-on drive once, wich is pretty similair,.. and a reflashing of the Firmware solved it. however, the fact that both drives stopped working at the same time is odd.. have you looked in the device manager for any recognized errors of your hardware?

Check in the bios as archangle mentioned. Be sure they are shown there. Then check your boot order and try to boot using some bootable CD. Hopfully it'll work and we can eliminate the hardware issues.

Have you tried using a different IDE channel/socket on the MB?
Even though it's a new power supply... have you tried using some of the other unused molex connectors?

well the drives are compatible with the comp and i havent tried using any different molex conecters but im sure thats not it, they seem to have power.Something else i noticed that i found intersting, When you put in the cd and it starts spinning the cursor changes to an arrow with a cd next to it but still it doesnt read it. ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY i cant even restore the computer with the restore cd please help me! i dont think its a hardware issue but maybe a software issue.

Maybe I could be of some help. I had a similar problem. If your motherboard is SATA, you could go to the CMOS screen before windows loads. Look for the option where you are made to pick between RAID and IDE. CHOOSE IDE.
Let me know what happens. |
