Talking so i know C2D rules now... but get AM2 and upgrade later?

so I will be building a new pc soon

my question is
I am a fan of AMD lol
what I do is
dvd burning
dvd encoding
run aim triton
msn messenger
and internet
could I do that all at the same time with a AMD X2 3800+ or similiar?

I know with the C2D I could probably do that too, but my question is will I notice much of a difference for what I do???

also if I get a AM2 socket now, will I be able to upgrade the CPU later?

Assuming they keep the socket that long That and assuming whatever board you get will be compatable with the later processor. As you probablt know, not all SocketT boards are compatable with the C2D.

Let's see the AM3 board will be coming out sometime along with DDR3. The AMD quad core models will use a Socket F type board. But those are geared for server cases more then anything. I run video captures/edits, burn dvds and vcds, and multimedia apps along with gaming with an AMD64 3500+ and 2gb of value ram. Burning dvds still chomps down on the resources here. I'll still waiting to see what AMD comes out with besides the quad core models before building the next case.
