Default Windows Media Player 11

I just got WMP 11 and there is an odd thing that happens when I play videos. The position slider does not appear and when I click the track the video will not seek, it only restarts the video. The video and audio works fine. Any ideas?

Sometimes that happens with weird videos in many different players. Does it only happen in WMP11? And what type of video is it you're trying to play?

Those video files are either corrupted in frames, or the format was coded poorly. By any chances are some of your formats .asf? Most .asf can't be seeked, while you can still get tools that can create this.

The videos have always worked fine in RealPlayer (and by worked I mean they also seeked). Could it be that the quality of video is OK for realplayer to seek but not up to par with this new WMP? All of my videos are .mpg.

It depends. WMP has always been a pain watching movies. Except for the classic version. Many different players come with different configurations such as realplayer vs wmp or vlc vs others. VLC would be able to play most files off the bat while wmp wont play most of them at all. It just depends and might be that you might not have a proper wmp codec.

i just wish i could find a media player to be my universal media player. is that too much to ask? lol. I've used realplayer for so long and had hoped that WMP11 would be the answer - which it is - except this video issue. oh well...
