Default struggling with display

I can't find my old thread so I started a new one. I am still trying to sort out my display after clean install of xp. My monitor is dell e172fp with nvidia 5200 card. I was having problems with image sizes too wide and pixelated icons but I sorted that out by using fonts from xp cd instead of hard drive when I changed the dpi. Everything is still way too small. Adjusting the settings doesn't help. That's how small everything is. Plus web pages are flush left. My settings are 1280x1024 and 96dpi which is native for the monitor. I uninstalled and updated nvidia drivers a number of times and didn't help. I also updated intel chipsets. One other thing is when I uninstall the nvidia drivers nothing changes. I thought the display is suppose to go to default settings. I think another set of video drivers are on the system. In Conflicts/Sharing I found the nvidia software sharing with Intel 82865g processor to agp controller. I'm not sure if that is suppose to be like that. Probably is. In add/remove programs I found Intel pro network adapters and drivers. These are two things I think could be affecting my display. Something definitely isn't right. My neighbor has the same exact system with the same settings and their display looks like mine used to. thanks
