Default Dell 4550, worth saving?

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 series with a cd burner and all that great stuff. The problem is that when you turn it on it says that a file is missing and it just stays on the black screen. I'm wondering if it work the get XP and reinstall that and get a cheap LCD and use it as a second computer or should I just sell as is?
