Anything over 30 for racing games, other games I can handle 25 or so. I value image quality over FPS, as long as the framerates are acceptable.

Well, your eye can't see past 24FPS so I would say 30FPS.

My games always seem to get a bit laggy around 30 fps, I know you can't see that many fps anyway, but it just doesn't play as smooth, so I went with 40.

If it was constant 30 then you wouldn't notice, but it does dip down below 30 and gets up to 40+ but it happens so fast that your FPS program gets the average and displays it as 30.

Thats partly true, movies can get away using ~30fps with NTSC because they blend each frame together. With computer games, each picture is a still frame, so it requires more frames per second or else it will appear laggy.

And some people may think theres no difference with 35 and 55, but a good way to test that is use fraps. Say you play Flatout 2 which stays at a constant 60fps, you record video with fraps and it drop to around 30-40fps, you can very easily notice how the game lags, and once it stops recording and goes back to 60, it looks great.

Some games are different though, like Halo, however it remains at a constant 30fps so you dont notice the lag.

Sometimes scientists make things alot harder than they need to. All they've gotta do is put a big spring on the ground where they think it's gonna land, or send a mission to the moon to erect a sign that says "Welcome to Earth".

i limit mine to 75fps... if it goes over 100fps the game goes too fast and my brain cant keep up. seriously i had halo at like 200fps and it goes so fast its not even cool...
