Default Remote desktop connections.

Hi all,

I'm new here, so I hope I'm following the proper rules and am in the right place.

I recently set up a computer here at work (desktop) to accept Remote Desktop connections with a distant laptop. The desktop power scheme was set to the standard Home/Office with everything staying on all the time and the laptop to Laptop/Portable Computer (shutting down after 3 hours of no activity). It worked great for a couple of weeks, but this weekend when I tried to connect from home it failed. (I don't have the laptop, but was just testing the connection for the other person). When I got to work the desktop was off. So I turned it on, put a note on the screen to not shut it off (just in case that is what happened). That night when I checked it, it was down again. The next morning when I checked it's log file I found it had stayed up only 3 hours. I checked the power scheme and found it set to Laptop/Portable Computer. I would not have made this change.

Now, is it possible that the desktop could have inherited the settings of the laptop for any reason, eg. connected for more than 3 hours with no activity on the laptop, or for any other reason? (The remote computer does become for all intents and purposes the other computer, does it not, and so I'm puzzled the change would not be the other way, except that each OS would want to protect itself?) The user of the laptop does not know how, or will even attempt to make any changes like that to power schemes or any other settings on any computer. She will always ask for someone to make changes for her.

Both computers are running WinXP Pro.

Thanks for any help.

Bob
