Question Desktop troubles

I'm running WindowsXP Home Edition w/ SP1 installed on a DELL Demension 2350

I cannot change my desktop.

I right click on the desktop, select properties, select desktop. The window has several desktop titles displayed but the BACKGROUND label is greyed out, the BROUSE and STRECH boxes are also greyed out. All other boxes and titles are selectable. The display at the top of the desktop window is a blue screen. My monitor's desktop is a mountain scene that came to me in an E-Mail and I made into my desktop some time ago.

When I tried to use my XP install CD I got a message that said my current version of XP was newer than the CD.

Can I just extract the desktop peculiar from that CD? If so how do I do it? This XP CD is one suppied for the computer from Dell.

upgrade to service pack two - see if it makes any difference.

Post my opinion

u can view registry keys and their values by proceeding as shown below:

start--->run--->regedit--->ok

but dont edit anything in it until ur sure about the registry keys for all softwares, if u change any keys for any working softwares it might turn into appl instability causing error messages and debug informations.

u just get exposure to registry here as i ve shown

u can delete keys and values for uninstalled softwares but be warned and careful,
