Exclamation Laptop Suddenly Won't Connect To Internet

I have an problem connecting my laptop to the internet (highspeed, DSL). I contacted Gateway about it, still no resonse. I'm sure you guys could help me with this. Below is the questionare I had to fill out for the problem and email it to them. There aren't any problems with the DSL modem or anyother external hardware. Thanks for the help.

1. What is the issue, problem, or question you'd like assistance with?
I cant get online with my wireless or wired connections. When I open internet explorer, and my laptop is connected to the internet (via wireless or wired) it says at the bottom "detecting proxy settings" and then it will come upo with "This Page Cannot Be Displayed". I can still get on with dialup, but whenever i have the oppurtunity to use high speed internet, it wont get on. I know the internet is connected with the DSL modem, everything is the way it should be, it's just that my laptop wont connect. This happened once before (Just recently actually), and I then reinstalled Windows and it worked. All of a sudden it decided to stop working. I thought it might be my antivirus or windows firewall, but it wasnt.

2. When did the issue start and what were you doing at the time?
The first i remember, i was trying to get on my friends wireless DSL and it wouldnt work.

3. Describe any recent changes to your system, including software or hardware changes made.
No recent changes

4. Describe the contents of any error messages you received, as accurately as you can.
The only "error" that comes up is "This Page cannot be displayed"

5. Describe any steps you have taken to resolve this issue.
I tried uninstalling Antivirus and disabling firewall, nothing happen so i just enabled them again. I tried changing network settings but still nothing.

On the modem do you have a solid WAN light? Or which lights are solid?

Yes, all the lights are solid other computers connected to my router can get online. Actually now that i think about it, this hasnt happened since I got my router, I usually connect using my friend's router. But my router doesnt have software installed, it just had a setup disk. How would i get my old settings back?
