I have a generic PC, 1.6GHz, 256 RAM, Win XP Pro SPK2. My problem is its slow as a dog. It has a virus program on it called Panda Platinum 2006 (Never heard of it). I couldn't get it to update and not trusting it I installed McAfee and ran a virus scan and found nothing. I ran Spy bot and Adaware and found nothing. I ran cc reg to clean up the registry and nothing. I then tried Hijack-this and can't seem to find anything unusual.
Any suggestions?

Well if you can't get updates and don't trust your virus scan, why not get AVG Free
If you still have problems after that scan, post your hijackthis log file.

256mbs is not much for XP, Have you done a disk clean up and defraged in awhile?

Yup, I know exactly what's wrong. I'm a Panda dealer.
Panda Platinum requires a minimum 512MB of RAM or it will bring your system to it's knees. Put a RAM chip in there and you'll be all set.In the meantime, try Avast! as a temporary fix. |

From your post it sounds like you've installed McAfee but you still have Panda on there as well?
If you have both of those active at the same time then I wouldn't be surprised if it's running dog slow. With only 256mb you either need to upgrade your memory or use lighter weight software such as AVG. |

The reason I installed Mcafee was because at the time I never heard of Panda and didn't trust what I didn't know. After the PC is cleaned up and running properly I was going to remove the Mcafee because the owner paid for the Panda program. I think I will see what kind of memory I can use with the board and get another stick.
