CPU / mobo makes squealing sound?

I have:

CPU: Core Two Duo 2.13 GHz. E6400
RAM: 2 GB. Corsair 800 MHz. XMS2 DDR2 (dual channel configuration)
GPU: X1900XT 512MB Connect3D
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
PSU: 535 watt Enermax Whisper II
HD: 250 GB. Seagate Barracuda 16 MB.

Currently my CPU is OC’ed to 368 FSB or 2.95 GHz. The ram is set at 2.0x to keep a 1:1 ratio and its running at about 730 MHz. I have all stock voltages for it runs stable on stock voltages.

Also the sound changes in frequency. It’s not a solid tone. I will remove the mobo tomorrow and see if I can hear where its coming from.

I noticed that when I run dual instances of prime 95 or ORTHOS the computer starts to make a high pitch “squealing sound”. Its interment. It only does it some times. It sounds like its coming from around the CPU area on the motherboard. But its hard to tell. Anyway anyone know what it is or how to fix it? When my CPU is maxed out it runs at about 50 – 53c. At idle its in the low 40’s.

Also if I lower the OC the noise is not present. Its only present at higher OC levels and when the CPU is maxed out.

Do you have a variable speed fan on the CPU? Sounds like as the fan speed increases, so does the squealing noise? Probably a bad cooling fan.

I don't know EXACTLY what causes that noise, but I do have some idea what you're talking about. A few of my previous systems and ones I've worked on did that as well. I could just about pinpoint the sound on these Dell Optiplex's I worked on to a small board with capacitors on it. It was right beside the processor so I beleive it controlled the voltage of the processor, but I'm not totally sure. Either way, it made similar noises. Oh, but realize only about 1/4 of the system's I worked on(around 20 total) made these noises...

Also, my old Athlon 1.4GHz system would make similar noises when I worked in Photoshop. It really didn't make the noise any other time, but it was definetly from my computer, and definetly NOT a fan or anything like that.

If it's easy to return the board, I'd try to. If not, you'd probably be fine. Better safe than sorry, if it's possible to exchange. Hehe, but who knows, it might be a trait with that board

Its not the fan. Its not anything moveing. I know this. And the fan is varable but set to max speed constantly and thus it does not change.

You sure it isn't your power supply? That is what makes that high pitched squeeling sound at high load, at least on my comptuer.

yea mine too. but thats probably just cause my whole computer is running off a little 300W (peak output) psu tht the case came with

Next time I hear a computer making these noises. I'll see if I can better pinpoint where it's coming from and also record it for you guys

anything that you force to work will produce sounds, if i force you to do something would you complain? i hear sound on my pc all the time, even my monitor.
