Default New computer build. 500$ budget

Hi all, This my first time to post on here. I am looking to build a computer over the holidays. I am only looking to spend around 500 not counting the monitor,keyboard,ect... I do zero gaming. Its primary use is to back up all my DVD's and net surfing. All I have now is a toshiba laptop and I do not have the patients to back up all my dvd's with this. It is too slow. I know several people that back up there dvd with a dual core processor, So is it possible to build a dual core for about 500. Maybe a 160g hard drive. I dont care if its intel or amd. Just basic video and sound card are fine. I can always upgrade them later. Any feedback will be great. Thanks in advance everyone

Sorry, I went a little bit over budget. There are something that you can strip down, like ram, and the CPU.

It just has a great processor with a pretty weak video card (for gaming). This is ok though since you don't do any gaming.
