Default Ram

right now i have one 256 MB stick of pc2100 RAM but i want to upgrade and buy a 1 gig stick of pc3200 RAM but how well will the pc2100 and pc3200 work with each other if they are even compatible with each other in the first place.

they will work but the 3200 will lower itself to the 2100 speeds and it wont be in dual channel.

I would just upgrade to 2x512MB of DDR 400. That way, you get high speed, dual channel, and more capacity. If you had a 1GB stick of DDR400 and a 256MB stick of DDR266, it would have more capacity, but would compromise drastically on both the speed, and it would only be single channel.
