Default Sharing Files over Dorm Network

ok... im trying to try some files with my roommate 3 feet away from me over the dorm network. im not even sure if i can, i can ping him thats about all i know for sure. can any1 tell me how i could know for sure if we can or cannot, or how i could fiind out

You just need to make sure that you guys are on the same workgroup, and then you should be able to connect and view eachother in the "My Network Places" window. Just hit the view workgroup button in that window.

Yeah, dorm networks should be pretty much the same for all. Just check on your workgroup names.

Right click on "MY COMPUTER"
Pick "Properties"
Go to the tab called "Computer Name"
Click "Change"

Just make sure the two workgroup names are the same. If you guys haven't set that up yet, you would have to go set up your pc for networking in the control panel.
