Default PC noob wants to optimize for gaming

Hey all!

I'm new to this forum, so I'll apologize right away if this is the wrong place to put this thread in

So I bought me a new PC:
ANTEC P180EU SUPER TOWER
M2N32-SLIDLX ASUS S-AM2 NF590-SLI DDR2 GBL PCI-E DELUXE
AMD 64 X2 4200+/AM2 BOX DUAL CORE 2200MHZ
2X1024MB DDR2 533MHZ CL4
ASUS GF 7950 GX2 1024MB 2XDVI HDCP SLI
19'' VIEWSONIC CA902 8 MS

Now what I wanna do is update or tweak it to it's best without overclocking or anything like that, unless it's recommended

As I said, I'm kindova noob with this stuff, so I don't have the guts to go download just any drivers out there and try them out. Help would be appreciated (Would've attached DxDiag, but it's too big of a file)

There is not much you can do without overclocking. You can turn off the visual effects in windows xp to squeeze that extra bit of performance out of your computer.

Have you installed the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer software for AMD X2 CPUs ?

Quote:
The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction.

I downloaded the dual-core optimizer. Does it run automatically? I tried opening the file inside the folder I put it into, but nothing happened..

I also got ASUA Ai Booster with the PC, but I don't know how to use it

I'm not closing overclocking out, I just don't wanna bust my new PC
