i got a USB game pad i plug it in and the light comes up on the pad but nothing in windows tried all usb ports it does it on other comps too, now id chuck it as broke if nothing happaned but that light coming on gives me hope lol, any ideas?

have you enabled it in game controllers in control panel and set it up there so it finds the drivers? the reason the light is coming on is that a 5v supply is coming from the usb port which is powering it it think you'll find.
