Default Laptop will not boot?

Hi all, just had a phone call from a mate, he said that his laptop just wont boot, as soon as he turns it on it just stays on the black screen, displays intel logo and "press F2 to enter setup". When F2 is pressed nothing happens, its just stuck. There are no error messages either. He has no XP disk to attempt to boot from. The laptop is an Advent 7035. Any help on this would be great.

advent computers

i'd say that they are mid range at best, but there is nothing about them in that page that screams 'I dont work!!!', so you'll have to give us some more info

Sometimes scientists make things alot harder than they need to. All they've gotta do is put a big spring on the ground where they think it's gonna land, or send a mission to the moon to erect a sign that says "Welcome to Earth".

There is no more info to give, all is stated above, that’s the only info that I was given. I had an Advent a while back and it lasted for ages, so I don’t really think that it’s an issue with the make at all. If you restart any PC it should in theory boot up again, but nothing is happening at all.
