Default Dell won't repair, no experience with Laptop hardware.

Hello,
I have quite a bit of experience with desktops and have been trouble shooting for a while. My dell laptop is having a problem, that is similar to that of a psu problem on a desktop. Dell found water residue on the laptop from when i had to remove some gunk underneath the keyboard like 4 months ago, and will not replace the motherboard(even though I had a problem with the laptop before i cleaned it, and they said nothing). It will only boot if we have large amounts of time between start ups, and if we do this, it will boot and eventually freeze up.If i try to start up right after it freezes it will come up with the power light and shut off immediately if we try to continue to boot it. Like I said, it is similar to that of a psu problem, but I am not too familiar with laptop configuration, much less with Dell laptops. And I am guessing that anything that would regulate voltage coming from the battery or the power chord, would be built into the motherboard. Thanks for any help!

EDIT: At first, it seemed like a battery problem, so dell replaced my battery, and it ended up not being the problem. So the battery is brand new , and the psu(power chord) works fine.
