Have you tried swapping out the battery on the system board to clear the cmos as well as a replacement? No display can be from a dead battery when the unit won't start while there is plenty of power available. The costly item may not turn out to be the display but the video controller on the board itself. If that went foobar a new board or laptop? would be needed.
