Default Dual-Core or Single-Core

I have heard from many people that Dual core is mainly for multi tasking and single core is best for gaming. But I have yet to see a single core go above 4000+ and dual goes easily up to 5200+. Whats best for gaming?

thx

Well, the best for multi-tasking and gaming are the Core 2 Duos. They are currently the fastest processors available for the public.

You can buy a Core 2 Duo E6300 for $181 on Newegg.

They are by far the best processors out right now, especially for gaming.

So you only run 1 program at once?
Only word, then close that, then switch to internet, then close that, and switch to listening to music? Granted, the difference won't be that huge btwn a single and dual core if thats all your doing, but more and more apps are being utilized for dual core these days. And C2D is the way to go.

I dont consider playing a game and Alt-tabbing to a site multi tasking. It just has always been my way of looking at things that single core is better for what i do. But it seems dual/duo is what is becoming the norm. So i will really consider it.

Even if you only have one app open, remember that there are around 20-40 Windows services that are running, which get split up between two processors, instead of just one.
