Hey, i am kinda afraid that i messed up my moms windows in her laptop. about 2 weeks ago, i borrowed it to go wardriving. i put my friends belkin wireless card in the laptop. i disabled the onboard wifi, enabled the belkin, installed the drivers, restarted, and i got the blue screen of death. i was going crazy. but i booted up in safe mode, done a system restore, and it worked fine for the rest of the day. 2 days later, i hooked up the laptop, got on MSN, checked my email, CF, and defragmended. i shut it down, and unplugged it from the power. well, it has been in the computer room for 3 days now, and i have been really busy. so last night, i turn it on. it says it wants to do a scan disk, so i was like ok. i went and got a drink, some food, and came back. it was off. i turned it back on, and after 2 passes of the xp bar on bootup, it flashed a blue screen of death for like less then a second, and then restarts. it boot up again, use last known good configuriton, and the same thing happends. I try in safe mode, it still does it. Its her laptop is for her work. she needs it and her files. what should i do??? its an HP, 17" wide screen, amd truion x2 at 2.0GHz, ati X200M 1GB of DDR. i really dont want to reformat. is there anything i could try?

Ouch, I had this problem with my Mum's VAIO laptop back in June, it's a HDD error AFAIK, I think there is a corrupt file in Windows, or something to do with the fact that the drive is basically bust, try repairing Windows using the rescue CD's you should have, if that doesn't work, then I'm afraid either a format or a new HDD is in order.

yeah, i'd try the restore disc if there is one, or the repair option on an xp disc.

this is why i dont mess around with family computers. i mean the least that i'll do is maybe have it connected to my server and schedule it to do a backup of its files to the server so they deont cry if the drive dies or they cant access the computer.
