Unhappy **NEEDHELP** dell demension 2400

i have a dell demension 2400 and the harddrive is shot. i have an old HD that was bought and i had put it into an old computer and coppied all the files to it. (including windows). when i try to put that HD into this dell it says "primary drive 0 not found" and "primary drive 1 not found." and it will not load windows or anything. so can anyone help me? i want to replace a western digital 40 GB HD(original dell HD) with a Seagate 80GB(copied windows, files, etc.from an old computer.)

please any help at all will be greatly appreciated

you cant copy files and the OS from a computer, than put it in a different computer, it wont work...

if thats what your asking...

also, if ur asking that, that may be against the rules 2 talk bout it here..

first make sure that you can find it in your BIOS. Then make sure it is set active and that your boot record is working. You can put in your windows cd(is it xp?)and choose repair and use the fixmbr. things like that......

Do you have the drive conencted properly? Try disconnecting and reconnecting it.

check your bios.....can u see the drive in there?
are your jumpers set right?
do you only have 1 drive in?
does the drive work in other pc?
is it active?
boot to a win98 boot disk and check what it says in fdisk....
