Default which way to go?

Well i have two options for my build here.

either go with the X800GTO or 7600GT.

But it is a bit more complicated then what it seems like. If i go with the X800GTO, it is used by jet, but it has 4 pipes unlocked and an aftermarket cooling device, which imo makes it a better preformer then the 7600GT, and it's only $90 shipped.

The 7600GT is $129 with a $20 MIR, so it is $110 shipped, and its EVGA, so in 3 months when new DX10 cards come out, i can use the step-up program and get one of them for a $129 discount.

so which way would you go?

The x800GTO (XT PE I think it is), would be a better performer, unless you need a GPU with SM3.

Why do you say that? Do you have some strong feedback or did the 7600GT just win by playing heads or tails with a coin?

I think the X800GTO is the winner right now, but i keep thinking that if i use the EVGA step-up program, i'll end up with a better card in the end (Nvidia 8600?) and it would be DX10.

but right now the X800GTO will give me far better preformance......i'm kinda confused , hopefully i will order my computer soon though...just depends when i get the go-ahead to do it.

Remember that the eVGA step-up program isnt all it's cracked up to be. First, you can only "step up" within 60 days of purchasing a card, and if I recall, it doesnt work on their highest end card, but that doesnt matter in your case.

90 days, 3 months, which hopefully the 8600 series is out by then, and then i can take advantage of DX10 and maybe a major preformance jump, look at the 6600GT-7600GT, even if i can only get the 8600GS, that should still be a huge jump.

right now i'm kinda leaning towards the 7600GT i guess......but its by the slimmest of margins, only because of the Step-up program i guess.

I have the x800GTO and it works great. BF2, CSS, FEAR, and AOE 3 all play like a dream maxed out at 1280x1024.

well I was looking at some benchmarks on tomhardware the 7600gt beats the x800gto easily in every benchmark I think..I have an x850xt which outperforms the 7600gt by a little, but If I had to choose again I'd get the 7600gt that supports SM 3.0..and even with 4 unlocked pipes which may bring it to an 800xl it still performs at or below an 7600gt..
