Default Windows Live Messenger problem

hi, me and my friend are trying to play a game over windows live messenger, but they keep getting the message

You more-or-less need to make sure that your computer can download and install active X controllers. This is basically a small application usually installed through a pop-up window. You might check that your pop-up killer hasn't kept it from installing. Usually you will get a message that asks if you want to install some software. You would want to install this software.
