You'll have to start paying around June, but I'm not sure if it's Nintendo or Opera who is charging you. I believe it's free until June or around then...

What part are we talking about here? simply connecting and downloading the older games? online play?

I was under the understanding that the Wii would connect automatically if it found a Wi-Fi connection? if so then you had better be able to turn that option off if they are going to charge you. All I hear is how it will be connected 24-7, whether the console is on or off. They'd better allow you to turn that option off if they are going to charge people.

Ah, OK. So to connect to purchase older games via points won't be chargeable then.

WiiConnect24 is completely free besides paying for the games you buy for the virtual console. Although you may have to pay to play online games like Phantasy Star Online if they ever do release something like that for the Wii, but that'll be up to the developer if they want to charge you. I was talking about the browser earlier which is free...for now...

Mario RPG download FTW!!!

Sony is developing a PSone emulator for the PSP and start offer a download service for those who don't have a PS3 (you can use the PS3 to emulate the PS games onto the PSP). One of the release titles (go figure) is FFVII but what I really hope is that they re-release FFVIII......

Personally, I think Microsoft and (hopefully not) Nintendo are butt-heads to charge people to play online because then money conscious people (like me) can't afford to play online....... I also hope (if they haven't already jumped on the band wagon) that Sony doesn't charge to play their online games........

Sony didn't charge for PS2 online because it sucked massive ass and they're not charging for PS3 online play because they need to do whatever they can to try and beat Xbox Live. Also, Live isn't that expensive. It's $50 a year for a gold account which equals about $4 a month. Silver is free. Nintendo is not charging for on line play BUT the publisher may. Take FFXI for PS2 as an example. You don't need to pay for Sony's online service but you do need to pay monthly to play the game online.

Yeah, the internet on the WII is FREE, granted you are already paying for an internet connection already. You don't need to pay for a special WII internet from Nintendo; you just need a wireless signal from it. If you are talking about the Opera browser, it's not even available yet. It should be released soon; it'll be free for the mass until the middle of 2007 where they will charge you for downloading it onto your WII if you got it anytime after that.
