Like everyone said, p4 is not the best now a days, but if you are not a hardcore gamer who needs to play on absolute highest setting then your p4 will do fine. especially that you already upgraded your pc.

The best ting you can do to speed up your pc now is do a fresh xp install if you don't have much files in your system that you wana keep. Disable all the useless processes and all the performance counters and drop the delay that the windows sets for files and folders when opened.

I manged to get my pc to run only 16 processes when the windows starts. It will save allot of your RAM and your pc will fell ever faster then before(with the ram that you just added).

I lost the link for doing all these but you should be able to find something if you do a search on google. Type something along this line, "windows xp optimization guild" don't disable the print spooler (if it tells you to)otherwise you will not be able to use your printer anymore.

good luck
