Exclamation which is more HD- 1200x1024 or an HD TV same screen size?

Just want to know, can computer monitors be better than a HD TV if the monitor is 1200x1024 and if the HD TV is the same size?

i dont think it has to do with screen size. my 17 in crt has the same max resolution as my 19 in.

if you want hd then get something thats over 2000 x ????

Depends if it's 480p(720x480), 720p(1280x720) or 1080p(1920x1080). There's also 480i, 720i, and 1080i(interlaced rather than progressive)

...ok. Um, unless it's 1080p or 1080i, 1280x1024 is greater than an HDTV's resolution.

720x480 < 1280x720 < 1280x1024 < 1920x1080

OK so I'm guessing that the 1080p or i is for a HD TV. If so are the 1080p or i commen or is most of the time a 1280x1024 better?

get a screen designed to be a television

any upscaling or downscaling is going to decrease your quality, plus most widescreen monitors are actually 16:10, not 16:9

and yes, 1080 is common, it is the standard for hd-dvd and bluray

and both 720P and 1080i are used for television

the 1280x1024 will still look as good because there are that many pixels within a much smaller area (i guess it depends on the tv's size) but when you blow up an image on such a large surface it does lose SOME quality, though with high definition its still MUCH better than even a smaller standard definition tv.

i love it, at work we have this tv that clearly advertises its "standard definition" right in the upper right hand corner of the tv's plastic... its like dude, after you buy that, you might wanna scratch that off... not something to brag about... lol

If you have a TV thats 1080p, and a computer monitor thats 1280x1024, and if they're the same size, the TV would look better because it has a higher resolution.

However as fade2green said, in general 1080p TV's are much larger then most computer monitors, so it would actually look worse. It's not just the resolution that matters, but the pixels per inch.
