Default I need laptop help. Wont start.

When i try starting up my laptop it goes to a black screen and says "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

Whats wrong with my laptop and how do i fix it? thanks.

try a repair install with Windows

Slap in your Windows disk and it will ask you if you want to repair an existing install

I have a dell inspiron b130. microsoft xp home. 512 ram i think. under 2.7 ghz. but i dont have the original OS cd. just the restore disc.

I'm not sure but I think you can pop in your restore disk... its late an I can't think right now, but i'm pretty sure the restore disk wont delete your stuff
