The first one looks like from Starwars, good for mountain bikes and so on.

The second one looks like the ones that BMX riders as well as skaters use.

I guess it really depends on what you intend to do with it. I would personally go with the second one.

I'm mainly mountain bike, but everybody that mountain bikes wears the first one and I've been told there's no difference in safety...

Well it's more of a aerodynamics/design issue. I would still go with the second one. Looks more normal when on ones head from what I have seen. The first ones tend to be overly chunky.

As a mountain biker myself, I say the first one. The visor can really come in handy, too.
