Default problem with IE/Firefox regarding browsing pages

Hey all. I think I have a problem with my internet settings. Whenever I have an active internet connecton, IE will only open pages half the time, the other half it does something wierd. e.g. Im opening yahoo.com, so it will try to open yahoo.com.com, yahoo.com.net, yahoo.com.edu , etc until auto msn search replys that the site cannot be opened.

Right now I am temporarily using AOL dialup because I am changing DSL ISPs. So when this problem is happening, I try opening the same page with AOL and it works fine. Anyone have any idea? I thought it might be some virus but all the scanners aren't picking up anything. Thanks in advance.

Platform: Windows XP Pro
