What type of internet do you have?
If you have internet right now, you already have a modem. I think you're talking about a wireless router and a wireless adapter. Brands don't matter much, but D-Link is a brand to stay away from with routers. |

Well there are 3 basic types of routers/wireless cards:
802.11B: 11Mbps 802.11G: 54Mbps 802.11N: 108Mbps It all depends on how fast you want your network to be. Your internet speed is not more than 8Mbps, so whichever one you choose isn't going to affect internet, only file transfer speeds. |

The others are correct, but 802.11n isnt finalized yet, and draft-n products can reach much higher speeds then 108. You're probably thinking of products such as rangemax, super g, speedbooster, etc, which boost the speed to 108.
When 802.11n is finalized, it may reach speeds of up to 300Mb/s.
