Default Windows XP Backup

I just installed the backup utility. I see that it backs up to a file that then can only be opened by running windows backup and restoring the files. I selected to only backup certain folders. If something would happen to my pc, I assume I could just start the back up program, choose restore, and point to the folder I made. Since I manually selected which folders to backup, are there any extra settting that windows saves, or jus the files.
Thanks,

I'm sure the backup is fine, I just would have liked to be able to open a folder and actually see all of the files there so I could drag n drop if necessary.

The backup utility just saves files, however you can use the Windows Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, to make a backup of all your settings.
